HB 2160 has made its way to the Senate Local Government, Land Use and Tribal Affairs Committee! It had a hearing on 2/15, but now it needs to get voted out of committee.  Tell the committee to support transit-oriented development and vote YES on HB 2160!

Washington has made historic investments in our transit systems —now it’s time to make sure that everyone in our state benefits from expanded access to light rail, bus rapid transit and commuter rail.

In 2024, the Washington state legislature will consider legislation to set statewide standards for transit-oriented development (TOD). Futurewise is leading a coalition of environmental advocacy groups, housing providers, and labor unions advocating for TOD legislation that prioritizes equity and affordability.

We are calling on the Washington state legislature to pass legislation that aligns with the following principles:

• Increase housing capacity near transit
• Ensure housing affordability near transit while offering flexibility to local jurisdictions for implementation
• Support community-led equitable transit-oriented development 
• Balance rapid implementation with local government flexibility 
• Reduce barriers to construction of new housing
• Ensure compliance statewide
