Over the last few months, Seattle has been through the wringer with our Comprehensive Plan. Hours of voting, days of conversations, and so much more. Before the next phase of this Comp Plan begins early 2026, we are sharing our gratitude with City Council for all the work they have done thus far. Here’s what happened:
How did our coalition do?
With the hard work put in by all of you and our coalition partners, we saw the passage of key amendments that will expand corner stores citywide, expand bonuses for more affordable housing and social housing, and stacked flat and green stacked flat bonuses to encourage more homes and more trees. There’s a lot to be proud of, and the impact this will have on housing capacity in the city can’t be overstated. While we didn’t see the passage of CM Rinck’s amendment 34, which would have added 8 new Neighborhood Centers across Seattle, we’ll be tracking its progress as it undergoes additional SEPA review.
Where are we in the process?
The passage or failure of the 100+ amendments was another hurdle to jump before we get to the final council vote. On September 19th, it was announced that CB 120985 & CB 120993 need additional environmental review before being sent to a full council vote. When will this happen? At the earliest, we may hear something by late October or early November, but whenever the vote does take place, we’ll be back in your inbox to let you know. ✨
What now?
Passing this Comprehensive Plan is no simple task; as we wait for the next steps, please share a quick ‘thank you’ to our City Council, and urge them to keep fighting for more homes, of more types, in more places, for more people. Keeping up momentum as we head into the next phase will be critical to continue pushing for housing justice, so thank YOU for all your support and advocacy efforts thus far. 🥳 Feel free to customize the message below and share with others!
