Tell Your Legislators to Support STEP Housing and Growing Together!

The cutoff for bills to be voted off the floor is this Friday, March 6! While we've seen some huge successes this year, we still have several key bills, including STEP Housing (HB 2266) that need support to get passed without amendments. Email your legislators and urge them to vote YES on these bills:

STEP Housing (HB 2266): removing barriers to allowing STEP housing (critical housing types like permanent supportive housing and emergency shelters)
Smaller Elevators (SB 5156): allowing smaller elevators to be built to prioritize safety while allowing more elevators to be built in middle housing.
Rural Freight Rail & Sprawl (SB 5820): prevent sprawl along rural freight rail and unify state land use code

Subject: Please Support STEP Housing and vote YES on HB 2266!

Message:

Washington is facing a housing and homelessness crisis that is affecting communities in every corner of the state. I urge you to vote YES on HB 2266 to remove barriers to STEP housing, and to vote NO on any amendments. STEP Housing is an umbrella term that includes emergency shelters, transitional housing, emergency housing, and permanent supportive housing. These are often the hardest housing types to site because local jurisdictions add costly and unnecessary requirements beyond other housing types, in part due to stigma or neighborhood opposition. This bill is the last in our package to ensure the state is Growing Together. Washington state faces a lot of uncertainty. Housing costs have continued climbing year after year, climate change is creating more unpredictable extreme weather, and we’re still working to make every community equitable and accessible. We have the opportunity to shape the way our state grows to help tackle these problems and create communities that are livable and vibrant. Already, the legislature has passed a swath of bills that will help us tackle these problems and Grow Together.

SB 5156 and SB 5820 are the last bills in the House that needs your support to help our state grow together in a way that works for everyone. Please vote YES on 5820 and NO on any proposed amendments.
