HB 1491, transit-oriented development, and HB 1217, rent stabilization are headed to the Senate Ways & Means Committee!
The legislature has the opportunity to pave the way for more housing and housing stability for Washingtonians everywhere. While we have taken big steps in the past years to allow more housing, there's still more work to be done, specifically around creating stability and predictability for renters, and taking advantage of our transportation invests and connecting communities by building more homes near frequent transit.
The Senate Housing Committee has the opportunity to pass these two bills:
- HB 1491 Transit-Oriented Development (TOD): allows more homes near transit
- HB 1217 Rent Stabilization: sets a 7% cap on annual rent increases
