Tell Your Legislators to Support Rent Stabilization and Transit-Oriented Development
Washingtonians are getting pushed out of their communities because of high housing costs, facing extreme cold, wildfires and smoke from climate change, and more. But we can tackle these problems and create livable, equitable and affordable communities with smart land use policies and Growing Together. Our communities need to grow in ways that make sense for them, like small apartments near new light rail stations, or protecting rural homes from wildfires. While they're common sense solutions, it still takes a lot of pressure and support for these bills for legislators to prioritize passing them, especially during these politically turbulent times.
We are asking legislators to support the following bills:
HB 1491 Transit-Oriented Development (TOD): allows more homes near transit
HB 1217 Rent Stabilization: sets a 7% cap on annual rent increases
The House has already passed both of these bills, but we face an uphill battle in the Senate. We can only win and secure enough yes votes if you and your neighbors are reaching out to you Senator and asking them to support these bills. Sending this email is a great start! If you are able to do more, please sign up to volunteer here.
