On Thursday, March 3rd, the WA House Of Representatives voted 55-43 to pass SB5042. Since 2008, Futurewise has been working to close the GMA's 'sprawl loophole' to protect our forests and farms from harmful development, and 2022 is the year that we close this loophole once and for all!

It is important that we take the time to thank our legislators when they do good work. I am writing as a constituent in your district, I wanted to thank you for voting YES on SB5042 to close the GMA’s ‘sprawl loophole’ and protect farms, forests, and critical habitats from development. I am so grateful for the farms, forests, and rural lands that make this state such a beautiful place to live, and I was thrilled to see the WA House take action to protect our rural landscapes and critical habitats from non-compliant and harmful sprawl. <br> <br>The 'sprawl loophole' has undermined the intent of the GMA for decades by allowing counties to subvert the Growth Management Hearing Board appeals process to build developments that gobble up farmlands, forests, and critical habitats, and put a financial strain on jurisdictions to provide adequate facilities and services to new developments.  <br><br>Your 'yes' vote on SB5042 has helped to ensure that the GMA is working as designed- to prevent sprawl and protect forests and farms.
