For the past four years, you've joined Futurewise in our fight to update Washington's Growth Management Act, and we've won big! Now it's time to make sure we see the impact of those victories in our local communities.
For our 2024 Livable Communities Spring Celebration, we’re thrilled to welcome Angie Schmitt, for a conversation about how smart land use policy keeps our communities safe.
Her writing and commentary have appeared in the New York Times, The Atlantic and NPR. She was the long time national editor at Streetsblog. Her book Right of Way: Race, Class and the Silent Epidemic of Pedestrian Deaths in America was published in 2020 by Island Press. More recently, she is the founder of the firm 3MPH Planning and Consulting, a small Cleveland-based firm which is focused on pedestrian safety.
Guests who purchase a ticket to our VIP reception will have an additional opportunity to meet Angie in a more intimate setting where she will also be signing copies of her book.
Delicious farm-to-table dinner provided by the innovative and original Brothers & Co.
In their own words: "We believe in produce defined by terroir, handmade noodles, fresh herbs, aged vinegars, turbulent stocks, and bright orange yolks. Our first and ultimate intention is to deliver an experience with food that is deeply satisfying: nourishing to the body, exciting to the senses, and rooted in a conscientious integrity."
We're thrilled to be back at 21 Acres, a center for sustainable agriculture education and collective action.
21 Acres works to promote the benefits of local food systems within the context of climate challenges. We explore the relationship between our natural and built environments, and the transition from an unsustainable, fossil fuel-based lifestyle to sustainable and regenerative ways of living.
Futurewise's Livable Communities Spring Celebration is our biggest event of the year. Funds raised from this event power our advocacy for sustainable, just and climate resilient Washington communities and we'd love for you to join us!
Futurewise is committed to hosting equitable, inclusive events for all. We offer tickets to our Spring Celebration on a sliding scale basis. For guidance on how to use sliding scale pricing, please check out this guide. If you would like to attend, but aren't in a position to purchase a ticket, please reach out to kateb[at]futurewise.org and we'll make sure we get you registered.
